last semester we had two really cool events! We made a three-day trip to Hamburg and visited the DLR Lampoldshausen, which is a test site for liquid rocket engines.

Hamburg greeted us with some cold and windy weather. After exploring the city on our first day we started our second day with a visit at Airbus Finkenwerder. There we were able to see the final assembly of the A320 family, from the assembly of the fuselage parts to the final fuselage cell. Adding to that we were shown the production of fuselage parts of the A380 and we learned more about the logistics behind the A380 assembly. Some parts are too big for the Beluga and have to be carried to Toulouse on Airbus owned ships. One of the most impressive things was to see the “tiny” A320 standing directly next to the A380, whose engine nacelle has the diameter of the fuselage of the A320.

On the third day we made an excursion to Lufthansa Technik. At their Hamburg site they make Airplane interior and equipment for VIP airplanes as well as Line and Base Maintenance for airplanes and engines. We heard some entertaining stories about accidents in Ground Handling as well as interesting facts about maintainability of different airplanes. An interesting part was also, to see the engine maintenance, where the whole engine is being taken apart and reassembled. In January we had our second event with the DLR in Lampoldshausen, which was a success for every EUROAVIA participant. Additional to the public exhibition hall (which displays pieces from back to the Second World War until models of the current Ariane-Rockets) we got an exclusive chance to see behind the scenes. Thus, we saw the control room, one of the test facilities that can be rented commercially including the set-up experiment and lastly the test stall, that the DLR makes available for student groups. This semester we are planning to visit OHB Oberpfaffenhofen and MTU Munich besides others. We also start making plans for our upcoming International Event and are planning some local events like a Hiking Weekend.

We wish you all a good start in the new semester!
