  About Dresden

Dresden. Known for its art collections, reconstructed historic city centre with the newly rebuilt Church to our Lady – die Frauenkirche –, the oldest existing Christmas market – the Striezelmarkt – and the beautiful riverside along the valley of the Elbe. These are all important sites that are definitely worth visiting.
But Dresden has more to offer. The State Capital of Saxony with about half a million inhabitants, situated in the east corner of Germany, has apart from its political significance quite a flourishing aviation industry and well known academic competence with the Technical University of Dresden (TUD). The “Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW)” – part of EADS – has proved its success in the freighter conversion business and is expanding its facilities to be able to work at seven A300/A310 aircraft at the same time. In the new hangar at Dresden Airport, IMA and IABG carry out long term structural strain tests at a complete version of the A380. The two firms gained earlier experience on similar test for components of the A340-600. Needless to say, that the airport of Dresden, which has recently been rebuilt and expanded, is an important part of the city’s infrastructure. Several High-Tech companies, such as AMD and Infineon, settled close nearby.
The TUD has about 37.000 students and is one of the top technical Universities in Germany. The A.S. of EUROAVIA is based at the faculty of Traffic and Transport Sciences. The faculty has more than 1000 students, either studying economics or engineering. Our A.S. is supported by the Institute for Aviation. Major research topics of the institute are Air Transport Infrastructure Planning, System Technologies, Ground Handling Simulations or Capacity Analysis.
