  About Aachen

The old imperial city of Aachen is close to the border triangle of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The city is famous for its hot and healthy sources of sulphureous water and its mediaeval cityscape with the Aachen cathedral and the big and well-fortified city gates “Marschiertor” and “Ponttor”.
With a population figure about 250.000 citizens whereof 50.000 are students, Aachen is an open-minded and multicultural city.
The city has a very good infrastructure of local traffic and also the connection to cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf, Lüttich, Brüssel, Maastricht and even Paris is easily reachable. Students of the RWTH-Aachen get a semester ticket, with which it is possible to travel in the city and suburbs by bus and to travel to Cologne and Düsseldorf by train for free.
Because of Aachen´s student flair there are a lot of taverns, cinemas, theatres, discos and bistros in the city, so that there won't appear any boredom.
The university-sport department and several public clubs offer a wide range of sport activities. Aachen is a marked place of technology with a high density of university institutes. This is especially interesting for students, who want to connect their visit with a job. So it is possible to link the pleasurable occasion with the advantageous.
